Transit Guide
Puebla's Hermanos Serdán International Airport is about one hundred and twenty five kilometres away, while Mexico City airports are a little further, around three hours by road depending on traffic. A car is the most practical way to reach Zacatlán.
From Mexico City, the route goes through Tulancingo and the Sierra Norte, taking around three hours. From Puebla, the drive is around two and a half hours. The final stretch involves mountain roads with curves and frequent fog.
First class and regional buses connect Zacatlán with Mexico City and Puebla. The bus terminal in Zacatlán is within a short taxi ride of the hotel.
Taxis are available in town for short trips to the barranca, the waterfalls and the bus station. Agreeing on the fare before departure is customary.
Chignahuapan is about twenty minutes by car, and the Valle de Piedras Encimadas, a landscape of huge balanced rocks, is around forty minutes away. Both make easy day trips.
Driving at night in the Sierra Norte requires caution, since fog can reduce visibility to a few metres. Leaving early in the day avoids these conditions.
